Could you post what lifestyle changes they recommended besides obviously quitting smoking?

This is a ping to everyone who posted on the Prayer Thread the other day.

I owe all of you so much for the Prayer support. As you can see above, if not for those prayers, I would not be here.

what I went through sucks. It really sucks.

It would suck even worse if you hadn't made it, Magoo.

And it's great to see you back!

Thank you for the update and I am so glad you are recovering! Whooohooo!!!

I just went thru an angiogram myself a while back. Fortunately I was ok (there was an indication of a problem on my heart scan). For any of you reading this, both the heart scan and angiogram are not that big a deal. I know, I have been there. It can also save your life.

That was an amazing firsthand account. Congratulations on it (especially since it is difficult for you to post at all), and congratulations on even being alive.

I think having a scan done would be a very wise thing to do. Thanks.

My wife Eve and I are so glad you are better.

I had some of what you had already. The Dr. told my family while I was in the surgery that if I was a smoker he could not have got my breathing started again.

To all who don't have the time or money to get a complete check up. Better think it over.

Dr.= "You were a lot more optimistic than we were. As a matter of fact, I just went over your reports and frankly, I can see no valid reason that you are even alive.

I can see many reasons why you are alive. They shine through in the words you wrote. Thank you for being you.

I am 46.
6' tall 200 lbs. My advice would be to first sit down with your family Dr. Go over the risk factors, see how many apply to you. Then make a decision.

I was reading this all along thinking you were an "older" guy...early to mid 60's maybe.

I am 41. 6' tall 230 pounds. I smoked up until two years ago or so. I'm going down to have my heart checked this week because of your story. Thank you.

You should submit this for publication somewhere. It's gripping.

Mr. Magoo, thank you for the first hand reports.

You have been given a great gift. It is called a second chance.

Obviously the Lord has special plans for you. That's why those 18 or 19 things happened just right so that you could still be here.

We're glad the Lord has seen fit to keep you here awhile longer. We are thankful for the skill and dedication of the medical professional assigned to your care.

Don't worry about the dollars. Take it one day at a time. He who has gotten you this far will not abandon you. You have the gift of life and love--you are a very wealthy man.

Use your second chance wisely. Only a rare few are given one. God bless and keep you.

What does one say after reading what happened to you!! I'm so sorry you had to go through this horrible ordeal...it's making me cry amigo!

I can only say, that I'm so thankful you are home, and recovering nicely. I'm glad you're not in a lot of pain my friend.

Hey, I can vouch for the fact that skipping meals (Breakfast) is harmful. My bod has completely been harmed by it..but it's recovering. I eat 3-5 small meals a day and take 8 vitamins. You can do it too!!! My prayers are continuing for you and your mom...

Stay in touch ok? Do you still have my email addie?

Dr. C. said that this artery was so blocked for so long that my heart had started to build new vessels to replace the blood flow with. That was the only reason I was still alive. The other 2 arteries were 65% blocked and went down the back side of the heart.

The creator of all things can do that . Magoo...you were not spared for no reason..God has a plan for your life..I would suggest you start talking to Him about it. If you do not own a bible I will send one to you as a Christmas gift. Freep mail me .

A long time ago one on my bosses..a man that had been an addict and alcoholic in his younger years..and was a cheating cad at the time of this conversation..told me how he was in a bar when he was a "drunk" A gun was fired at him..but the bullet missed....when he was "picking his hair the next day there was a bullet in his afro..death was that close

At that time I told him that God preserved him for a purpose (at the time I thought it was his fine work with our addict population.)

Two years later he announced that He was quitting to enter the seminary..today he is a Lutheran pastor in my area.

Now I do not know why God preserved you , but He did.

I thank God for His goodness and faithfulness..may He continue His blessings to you. I ask this in the name of Jesus

Amen

Welcome back, Mr_Magoo, and thanks for the detailed report. I'm amazed! My lady neighbor (83 years old)had exactly the same experience beginning six months ago. I'm still watching her cat and watering her plants as she has not returned home yet due to a series of falls and broken bones she sustained while exercising to get her strength back. So be twice cautious if your muscle tone is gone. Best wishes and have a speedy and total recovery..... Dave

Way to go, Magoo!

Very good reportage of your recent bout.

I can empathize somewhat because 2002 has not been my year either.

In May, I had a wicked attack of nausea, vomiting, etc that lasted almost a week.

My long-time family physician said "pancreatitis."

Nothing to do about it but low fat diet and NO BOOZE!

He sent me for a scan just to double check and guess what: "Aneurysm of the aorta." Surgery mandatory.

October 16 they cut a 12+ inch slit in my gut and wrapped a stent around the bubble (aneurysm). Should be good for 20 years or more.

Morphine for 3 days and I went delerious. I could have sworn the staff was trying to off me. Back home in 5 days and I am wasted.

Doc said 4 to 8 weeks before I feel like doing anything.

BTW, he said heart surgery patients feel much better faster once they recover because their body is actually in better shape than before.

Me, I'm just the same guy without a bubble on my aorta.....but 30 pounds lighter than May.

I agree with your message to the Freepers.

Quit smoking!

It took me ten tries and I finally did it with acupuncture. That was about 10 years ago. Never had craving after about one week.

No more booze now and that was simply as a result of the absolutely miserable symptoms from the pancreatitis. No cravings either cause I know what the result of a martini will be.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. You'll probably beat me.

And walk, walk, walk.
