That comes to 8 Apprehended, 7 Dead, and 30 At Large. That means we are batting .333

Considering a lot of the initial work must have been even identifying the people in the network, a year later I think we're doing pretty well...

Keep in mind that we're fighting an organization that has over 150,000 - 200,000 members (counting the affiliate groups) worldwide in over 60 countries, receives $1,000,000 a week from wealthy donors in the Persian Gulf, has access to some of the finest training and technology on the planet, and receives active support from at least three anti-Western nations (Iraq, Iran, Sudan) as well as tacit support from others.
The brainchild of the al-Qaeda training program, Ali Mohammed, was a former member of the US Special Forces. The head of bin Laden's bodyguards, Amin al-Haq, as well as its current military commander, Saif al-Adel, both served with the Egyptian special forces and fought in the Yom Kippur War.
Collectively, al-Qaeda has fought and in many cases defeated the Egyptian, Serb, Russian, Algerian, Filippino, Indian, Thai, Ethiopian, Tajik, Uzbek, and Jordanian armies. From the perspective of not having their own state, they have an outstanding combant record.
Yeah, 8 senior leaders apprehended, 7 dead, and 30 at large is nothing short extraordinary progress in terms of the War on Terror. Which, you'll remember, was always going to be a long war.
