My family is otherwise very conservative, although my daughter is mad at Bush.My only child, my daughter, is even further to the left than my parents. It makes for some pretty intense discussions when she and my son-in-law come to visit (as in **tomorrow**!)
.45MAN and I have been able to get through to them on some issues (how ridiculous and anti-Constitution gun control is), but they hold firm on others. They are convinced our POTUS is a war-monger who cares nothing for the poor or the environment. (Blind liberal brain-washing!)
It's my mission to keep working on them!
My daughter is my only child too. I was encouraged when she cast her first vote for Alan Keyes in the 2000 primaries. She voted for Bush in the general election. She is intensely pro-life, indifferent about guns, pro-environment, semi-vegetarian (by preference and for health reasons - not because of some animal worship cult) and a little too politically correct regarding speech. She was very well grounded through 8th grade. Beyond that I made the mistake of allowing her to go to public high school. I'd swear she lost IQ points. By 4th grade in private school, she was learning stuff I didn't even get till college. By 11th grade, I was having to correct simple spelling and grammatical errors on papers she wrote. Basically, she isn't very political anyway and she hates it when I carry on about what's going on, but on the other hand, it seems to make an impression in spite of her complaining. Maybe your daughter will come around. Don't give up....and hint: take evey opportunity to reach the grandkids! LOL!
