What exactly is the argument here? To remove the statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest? Well, I think Forrest, although a capable military man and politician, was a horrible man for founding the Klan (although it was different back then). He also was on the wrong side of history and fought for a lousy cause. But comparable to Hitler? Sheesh. Thats ridiculous.

Its a harmless statue and of the people of TN want him removed they can take it down. Personally, I find that statue of Lenin in Seattle, WA much more offensive.

Not easily. It's privately owned and on privately-owned ground.

What you may not know, but the author surely does, is that this statue was locally sculpted and sets on private property apart from public easements yet in view from the interstate highway; tearing it down would constitute criminal trespass.

I "liked" the author's zero sum approach to war: kill all of the "survivors."

I like Bedford Forrest quite a bit....maybe the best horse cavalryman this country ever produced....but that statute is hideous. I drive by it daily.

Vandy is in the throes of becoming the Smith or Sarah Lawrence of the South. That folks on this forum who consider themselves conservative applaud this is sad. Most with the exception of Walt are not even in this "fight" as natives to this region. Same ol story. Do-gooder Yankees looking down their noses as Southerners. I doubt this will ever change and i doubt Yankees will ever learn to examine their own "issues" either.

As for this writer, I don't know much about him but I suspect he's a typical Vandy marxi-lefty and all of this has the full approval of the fairly new President Gee who has made it well known that he intends to "diversify" Vandy ...as if it needed it.

Lording over Gee is the local Ingram family of billionaires including the matriarch Martha who is quite the social butterfly. Their fortune of several billion or more depending on stock prices was derived by being direct descendents of the Weyerhaeuser founders in Minnesota. They contribute heavily to Vandy.

It's always those damn Yankees somehow...lol

PS: Ironically I had a conversation about this issue this very morning with the eldest son in a local prominant Jewish family who shares my own views about the PC views overtaking Vandy. His family are also "involved" with the university and are exasperated with Mrs. Ingram's refusal to reel in Gee. Another sore point at Vandy right now is that one of the highest ranking professors at the Divinity School is a leading German atheist. Imagine that.

The voracious appetite of political correctness consumes all in it's path. A notion that escapes many of the do-gooders on this forum. Baring the wish that we can drive a stake thru the heart of this beast, I hope I live long enough to see my particular region cease to be everyone's (including so-called conservative's) favorite whipping boy.

It will be amusing to see all the do-gooder's heritage under the same blistering attack and see how quickly they wither under fire..lol

Regards....I'm not lumping you in with the rest of them btw....if you care.
