James Jeffords surely must be the loneliest senator on Capitol Hill. Just six months after the Republican leadership pulled out all the stops to get the Vermonter re-elected in 2000

I expect that Jeffords will resign so that a Democrat can replace him with a RAT...probably himself. Jeffords is a pathetic creature and gives pond scum a bad name.

Take him back to increase your numbers, give him only ONE committee, stick him in a broom closet of an office, and give Linc Chaffee three times the space and staff.

What a whore Jefford's is

At least a whore provides a service. Jeffords is as worthless as a speed-bump.

Hey, I think everyone here is very short sighted. Ol' Jim might have had a REAL change of heart, and everyone deserves a second chance. He might even be an honest Senator with real integrity. We need more of those kinda of guys on our side. Really!

Yep, Lott and the Republicans should tell Jim to climb on board. As long as he RESIGNS FIRST and STANDS FOR RE-ELECTION so that the voters of Vermont can have a say, he can come back.

There's nothing more despicable than messing with the results of an election. The voter fraud, stolen elections, and similar actions by the Democrat strike at the heart of our democracy. If the ballot is rendered meaningless by actions in Minn, NJ, Vermont, and Missouri (re: Ashcrofts stolen election in 2000), what recourse do voters have?

At 68, senile Jumpin' Jimmy should just hang it up, seek treatment for his Alzhiemers, and let Dr. Dean pick a replacement.

Sssh, don't give Jeffords any idea of resigning until January, when Dr. Dean is replaced by a Republican governor of VT.

I say take him back and give him NO committee assignments.

Scroll up and read my last post; take him back ONLY if he resigns and stands for reelection.

By voting against homeland security and cloture on homeland security, Jeffords was one of only 9 or 10 senators. Even most of the RATs did not take that stand. Leahy did not take that stand!

They should agree to take him back.

And then they should do him like Brutus did Ceasar.

After he announces the caucasing switch, they should strip him and excommunicate him on a Weds, for the Thursday papers, and the Sunday talk shows.

Let's propose an alternative for Mr Jeffords that could help the Republican cause.

It would be good to get his seat back.

1. Let's say that the Republicans acknowledge that his seat should be Republican since that is what his constituency voted for.

2. Let's say that we allow logic and strategic need to rule this issue rather than retribution.

3. Let's admit that his chairmanship is insignificant...it's not like it's foreign affairs or judiciary. Beyond that, let's say that he just be offered committee membership

4. Let's Offer a price for this:

....a. Full public renunciation of his prior betrayal as a betrayal.
....b. Full public exposure of any and all dealings in "smoke-filled back rooms" with the Democratic leadership to get him to betray his constituency.
....c. Full public pledge that he will step down from the Senate following this term.
....d. Full return to the Republican Party with pledge to support the President and the party that put him in office.

Now. Given those conditions, would it be better to have him with the Republicans or out there all alone?

I've got on my flameproof suit and my flak vest. Fire away.

In exchange for his promised vote to turn Senate control over to the Democrats, he was permitted to keep his chairmanship of the Environment and Public Works Committee.

False. Jeffords chaired the Health, Education Labor and Pensions Committee before he decided to switch parties and deliver control of the Senate to the RATS. When he switched parties, he was forced to surrender control of this committee to Teddy Kennedy, but as a consolation prize was given Chairmanship of the Environment and Public Works Committee which he had never before chaired. Once again, these journalists have demonstrated they have a very short memory since this all happened last year. Jeffords proved he was not merely a RINO, but a veritable RAT agent of influence. Rumored left-of-center potential party switchers Chafee and McCain are pretty much the same thing--traitors to the Republican Party in my opinion.

xzins,

Your idea is actaually pretty good frm a purely Realpolitik angle. It seems to me that letting him come back just could be better revenge on him in the long run than keeping him isolated. Consider these benefits:

1. It destroys his credibility even more. He will be shown to everyone to be the weasel we always knew he was.

2. It presents a humbling scenario to potential party switchers like Chafee, that traitors will eventually come crawling back. Plus it shifts the balance enough in our favor to the point where 3 Republicans would have to switch to make a difference.

3. The Democrats will start hating him as much as our side does. Then he'll really have no where else to go in the furure.

4. The GOP will appear magnanimous, and not the stereotypical mean boogeymen the media like to present.

Of course that's just playing Devil's Advocate from the most cynical standpoint. Ultimately, I don't think it would or should happen. It would just be too hard for any Republican with principles to stomach letting him back. Despite the possible political advatanges of taking Jeffords back, I'm glad that the GOP is telling him to go F himself.
