They were just waiting until it was too late for the evening news.
Daschle speaking now: vote on Shedd next; then cloture vote on terrorism reinsurance; if cloture gets 60 votes, final vote on terrorism reinsurance. Daschle hopes it can all be completed this evening. Doesn't sound as if there's any intent to filibuster the Shedd confirmation.

Oh, it's a Daschle press conference. He's predicting the American public will be outraged by the special interest provisions in the homeland security bill. That's just the line that CNN has been pushing.

The way Daschle is talking, if the Senate is in session tomorrow, Talent will be sworn in. I guess that explains Daschle's haste to end the session.
