JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Republican Jim Talent could become the newest member of the U.S. Senate as early as this week, when Missouri Secretary of State Matt Blunt is scheduled to certify the Nov. 5 election results.
Blunt, whose father is U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt of Missouri and the new House majority whip, is scheduled to certify the results at 1 p.m. Thursday in his state Capitol office.

Mrs. Carnahan gave a farewell speech Monday on the Senate floor, reflecting on her time in the Senate and the circumstances that brought her there. How many senators were in the chamber?

It'd getting scary for Trent "notta" Lott. If the pom-pom, compromised leader has to lead & upset the opposition, he could have a mental breakdown. How far must he go before he is exposed. GW, put some spurs on him & ride him around Washington. I can see those ol' jowles work'in away telling Talent how it's done. "Jimma, just don't go over to the Ford Building & try getting along with Tommie."

Dems over at DU are jumping around at a story that says Mccain and Chafee are gonna jump if Landriue wins in LA...anyone else hear about that?

I heard Miller and Nelson were going to switch to the (R) side if she loses!
To: Guillermo
Yep. That story has had its intended effect, to inspire the depressed Dems into rallying 'round Landrieu.

I'd make that trade right now.
Anyways, I doubt they'll make the switch, especially McCain, and especially in light of the election results.

I think the story is nonsense.....McCain's identity is as a maverick GOP and Chafee has already ruled it out.
To: rwfromkansas
That's right. McCain loses his "star power" if he becomes one of 50.

Macain will never jump to the Democrats, it will finish him.
Chaffee has long stated that he will not either.
Besides, even if they do, the Senate would still be in control of the GOP so what good would it do?
To: SwinneySwitch
I am sorry, I see what you are saying, a Landriue win would and the two defections would give the Senate back to the Democrates.
Don't worry, Landriue is not going to win so it is a mute point.

I wish to never hear the name carnahan again.

``I still believe, as did my husband, that public service is a good and noble work, worthy of our lives.'' Too bad she wasn't up to the job. </sarcasm
