This vote kills the Daschle/Lieberman amendment. Now passage of the bill is a done deal.
(Lordy loo...I often misunderstand these senate votes...but someone will correct me if I'm wrong.)

No, we don't have Landrieu...she did this for her own worthless carcass after seeing that it wouldn't matter.
Yep she was released to vote no when it was evident it was going down to defeat. She'll try to campaign on it during the next couple of weeks....

Did Allard and Campbell of Colorado vote the RIGHT way?
To: montag813
Well, there will be tort reform in the next congress. I'm sure of it. W complained about trial lawyers throughout this entire campaign.

For the moment, I'll take her vote. Then we'll fight her in LA. Nelson of Nebraska voted NO. Daschle is dead meat.

Okay, enlighten me....I thought this was a bad bill because of all the pork spending added at the last minute, that had absolutely nothing to do with security.....so, I thought this would be something not good to pass.....

I think this was a means of getting a start on tort reform early. I expect it will be handled as you wish this next year. I predict this is gonna be a really bad year for the Trial Lawyers, NEA and ACLU/People for the American Way!

This vote is an appropriate and symbolic repudiation of Daschle's 16-month stewardship of the Senate. It was utterly broken under his failed leadership. The senators looked him in the eye and said NO.

I don't think he has, yet. But he is on record as supporting the Daschle amendment.

And Terrell will say "If you'd have voted in favor of it before November 5th, we'd already be working on hiring people for this Department. Instead we had to wait weeks and weeks-- risking American lives."
To: Wait4Truth
47 - 52 quite a stinging defeat for Daschle, I'd say.

I think stomping Daschel's face into the mud trumps minor details.
To: nicmarlo
As I understand the amendments, they were not pork per se, but rather things like protection of companies that produce vaccines from excessive litigation, research facility requirements, etc. Perhaps someone else can illuminate this subject.
I think the "pork" phrase was one used by the media to try and fool people.
