You were reading my mind. SA is one of the few, maybe the only, national organizations that is worthwhile. IMO. Plus, there are usually good local charities to consider.

I used to send money to the Salvation Army until about 20 years ago when a major from there told a Chicago newspaper that it was them ol' REAGAN BUDGET CUTS that made the SA so necessary. I waited for weeks to see if someone from the organization would "clarify" the major's statement, but it never happened.
