Meteor Storm Coming
by KYW's Karen Adams People along the east coast, including in the Philadelphia region, are in for an astronomical spectacle Monday night into Tuesday morning. Forecasters are predicting not the annual Leonid meteor shower, but a meteor storm.
At the peak of a meteor shower you can usually see about 10 meteors an hour racing across the dark sky. But during a meteor storm, Wayne Adams, a sky watcher with the Bucks Mont Astronomical Association, says you see many, many more:
"This year they're predicting that we can see anywhere between three to five thousand meteors per hour at the peak."
The storm's expected to begin around 11 Monday night with earth grazers.
"Earth grazers are meteors that hit the atmosphere and skip along the atmosphere much like skipping stones on a pond," Adams says.
The best time to see the storm in the Philadelphia area will be 5:30 Tuesday morning. Adams says just face south and look about half way up from the horizon.

I have to be REALLY LOUD outside Brad's window. His mom said I can't wake him up. He's disappointed. Heck, so I can't help it if I knock into something right outside his window, can I??????????

I just went out there to check, and as I'm coming in, I noticed....he's up on the bed, sitting on his knees, mini-blinds behind him, watching.....
He's gonna be in SO MUCH trouble tomorrow when he can't wake up. Poor guy.

Thanks for the link. Thanks to all who have supplied the many links for information on viewing. Spouse and I are gonna sit up and sip hot beverages and watch the show on our front porch. We are in an area with little light pollution and a wide horizon. Can't wait.

That's MY theory. But I'M not the mother. We'll see what "happens" though.
I hate for him to miss this, as much as I hate for him to be too tired to get up in the morning and get in trouble....
To: Brad's Gramma
That is true .. well I guess you can just cross you fingers he doesn't get caught
I can't stay up any longer .. maybe I'll stick the video camera out the window and hope to catch it all on tape cause I am one tired buckaroo
