We have:

- 500 Minuteman III ground-based ICBMs, with a total of 1500 warheads aboard.
- 50 MX ICMBs, totaling 500 warheads.
- 192 Trident II SLBMs, totaling 1,536 warheads.
- 216 Trident II SLBMs, totaling 1,920 warheads.

That's a grand total of 5,456 warheads that can be launched from ICBMs. And we of course have many thousands more than can be launched from cruise missiles and manned bombers. The targeting of all of these systems is obviously top secret, but one can safely assume that at least one out of the many thousands of warheads in our nuclear arsenal is targeted at Mecca. After all, there are only so many targets on earth. And if for some strange reason this isn't the case, re-targeting ICBMs is a simple affair that takes a few minutes.

So, in other words, no official or semi-official has ever made a statement even to the effect that perhaps we should target Mecca.

What I'm talking about is Mutually Assured Destruction, more the policy than the physical targeting of a missile. Has any official or semi-official ever made a statement alluding to M.A.D. and (massive, i.e. smallpox or nuke) terrorism?
