They agreed to let the Shedd nomination pass as a final tribute to Strom Thurman, knowing full well that it would pass next year anyhow.
So they passed it by voice vote. However, none of them wanted to be on the record of having approved it, so they did this stupid little exercise.
It means nothing. The voice vote was the official committe vote.

It means nothing. The voice vote was the official committe vote. I agree that it means nothing in the sense that it doesn't change outcomes, however, what it does say is the extraordinary lengths to which they will go to gain even the smallest partisan benefit. It's indicative of both their desperation and the lengths to which they will go to get their way.
Were I a Republican leader, I would arrange to corner the market on bag catheters so that these clowns would have to use a bucket when it comes time to filibuster, because that's what we're in for.
