So why didn't the Rs ask to have it recorded that each individual D was present and did not object to the nominee? It sounds like you can anything at all recorded, true or false.

Maybe they are recording it that way to say later that the republicans ignored the vote of the commitee so they could ram their candidates through regardless of "the will of the people". It would be just like them to accuse the republicans of trying to subvert the duties of the senate and installing judges that did not get approved by the commitee.
