Well, I'm sure the good and kindly Senator Lott will find some way to be a graceful coward and let the RATS have their way again.

On the other hand, some key Democrats are said to be worried that a quick confirmation of Shedd would anger the NAACP and other African-American groups that strongly oppose the nomination. As I understand it, Shedd has an excellent reputation among blacks in his state who know him. The people who currently head the NAACP are not truly representative of blacks, any more than the people who head NOW are representative of American women. In other words, Shedd is not a racist. Rather, these organizations hate anyone who is conservative or pro-life.

As you can see from
THIS article on the same subject, the DEMS really do take their marching orders from the NYTimes!

The RATS will have my full attention as they drive themselves into a frenzy trying to placate all of their various fiefdoms. I will watch with great glee as they gnaw the tails and whiskers off of each other!

Either way, it seems like good news for Republicans, and Shedd will be confirmed next year at the latest anyhow.

This is absolutely infuriating! I heard some comments by Feinstein, Leahy & Edwards (I think) and you'd think to hear them tell it, Shedd is a Nazi. They accused him of hating African-Americans and being against civil rights. I thought this partisan stupidity would be behind us now but guess I was wrong. If the democraps want to lose even more power, let them keep this up. The American people have just about had it! For victory & freedom!!!

When I hear people call the Republican Party the "Stupid Party" Senator Lott is the first thing that comes to mind.
I don't understand why no Republican in the US Senate has the nad's to stand up and challenge this chameleon.

You thought Democrats couldn't sink any lower?
Ted Kennedy and all his Democrat friends were blatantly insensitive when Mary Jo Kopeckne sank and drowned while Ted swam away from his car, and now Ted tells all that Shedd is ... "insensitive" to the rights of minorities.
Hypocrisy has never reached higher levels than those we see within the democratic dictator's party.
To: Utah Girl
It is also an extraordinarily risky move politically. Some Democrats, apparently including Majority Leader Tom Daschle, are worried that a filibuster against Shedd could hurt the election prospects of Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu, who faces a runoff election next month.
Go ahead Teddy. Keep digging.

My impression is that the civil rights groups are being used as cover for the other groups in the RAT coalition. The evidence seemed pretty strong that that was the case for Pickering, and it is very likely the case for Shedd as well. In which case the threat that black groups in LA may not support Landrieu is a hollow one.
By the way, would a filibuster on Shedd stop passage of the homeland security bill?
To: Dog Gone
Shedd will be confirmed next year at the latest anyhow. The RATs in the Senate will have enough votes to filibuster Shedd next year too. But I'd like to see them try.

Senator Lott once again showing us all how incompetent he is.
To: aristeides
I have read here that votes on appointments are not subject to filibuster in the Senate. I don't know if that's true or not, but I can't ever recall one.

The Rat destruction of Pickering had the interesting side effect of causing the defeat of Rat Congressman Ronnie Shows.
