Nicotine was & remains to this day my, "drug of choice."
And you don't know what the meaning of, "prick" is until you were around while I attempted to dump, "the habit."
Ask my wife who never smoked anything; & as a MSN not only understood the *possible* dangers cigarettes posed but also badly wanted me to quit (so I'd stop ruining her art, furniture, clothes et al).
It'd get so bad SHE'D go out & BUY ME a few packs of Winstons just to shut me up.
I was much more miserable a sot then than I am now, boy.

I had no idea how powerful nicotine is as a drug; none, nada, nietz.
While people are carping about the dangers presented by THC, cocaine, booze & a host of other, "designer drugs"?
I found nicotine to be the one which never gets the respect it deserves for being an incredible stimulant & highly addictive.
One which on top of everything else, *mixes* well with just about everything.

1) Want to quit & mean it. (~Period)
2) Admit [you're] a "junky." (~To YOURSELF)
3) Declare you're going to quit BECAUSE you love it. (~as few other reason(s) will stand up to your *personal* demons when you're alone.)

Thanks fer the advice...I shall re-read it after the holidays when I plan on quitting for good. Working out again has gotten me back on a health kick and I'm committed to making it happen before I hit 40 in June...MUD

That's *why* I said one must use the stuff, as prescribed.
There's a whopping 2mg of pure Nicotine in every piece of that stuff; &, people can * *do* wind up more addicted than when they started.
Properly used, one puts ONE piece of Nicotine in mouth * gives [it] two chews & that's *it*.
Then they're to *pack* that piece between their gum & cheek *just* as you would your, Skoal.
Whenever there's a craving for a nicotine *fix* (cig, chew...) one drops that piece onto their molar & gives it TWO chews; then, repacks it back between the gum & cheek until the next craving.
The *two* chews release the same amount of nicotine as one would ingest during the consumption of an [read: one] ordinary cigarette.
That's the whole key to its success, too.
One breaks all the other habits associated with smoking -- & there're many -- while getting their dosage under control.
Wildly fluctuating dosages can be a real problem as [that] amount is specific to each individual & has a half dozen variables affecting it.
In my case, it took me JUST one week of using two pieces per day; before, I began to substitute a stick of Big Red gum for the Nicorette.
Although I felt cravings, those cravings had become manageable.
At that one week mark I was able to employ the psychosomatic effects of chewing that damned Big Red gum in lieu of taking the medication.
Know what?
It worked.
Haven't had one single cigarette, *since*; not one.
Can be around nothing *but* smokers in social settings, drink adult beverages ad nauseum now while never feeling the temptation to fall off the wagon.
For me, that's really a big deal.
...feels damned good to be *clean*, too.

BTW...problem with that patch is that I'd end up with 3-4 of them plastered accross my body and wouldn't shower to keep them from unsticking for 2-3 days...the Missuz didn't much appreciate that...LOL!!!
