'I had so hoped once the kidnappers were caught, they'd have a shred of humanity and tell law enforcement and Alice's family where she is. Apparently, I'm wrong about the kidnappers having a shred of humanity.'

I had hoped for the same, but I told my family that I feared that when the police were trying to get them to tell them where she was, they would each have an attorney standing over their shoulders advising them not to say anything.

Yeah, I figured the perps were all lawyered up. They'll only talk if they can get a plea bargain. In the meantime, Alice's family and friends are in anguish, suffering because they don't know where she is.
Bastards (excuse my language).

they would each have an attorney standing over their shoulders advising them not to say anything. From a tactical legal standpoint one supposes they're correct. However, taking the tactical legal standpoint in a case like this is also profoundly evil: a woman's life hangs in the balance, and they're helping to snuff it out.
IMHO, if they find Alice dead and tied to a tree, any attorney who counseled silence should be prosecuted as an accessory to murder.
