According to Mapquest.com, driving distance between Shallote and Bolivia is about 17.27 mi. and that is by fastest route, shortest route, or avoid highways route.
This tells me that there are NOT too many main roads in the area.

Here is a thought. I would think most of the area is rural farm/timber like land. No one knows the property better than the owners themselves. Is there people available that could go door to door and ask the owners if there are timber access or "back of the property" access roads on their property?
Just grasping at more straws here.

They're both on 17.... which is the only straight 4 lane road in the area... I've been on it many a time... lots of woods too...
The thing is... they went all the way to Bolivia that day (which is getting rather close to Wilmington) and THEN went BACK to SC... Little River is in the northern area of SC... and from what I understand NOT a very nice area...
I don't get why these guys were doubling back so much... :(

This paragragh suddenly captured my attention:
Authorities say they can place Donovan about 15 miles outside Bolivia at 4:28 PM on November 14th. Donovan must have been alive at the Shallotte Amoco since she called her daughter about 30 minutes after police say she was at the gas station.

They were just 2 miles from Bolivia when she called. They were spotted in Bolivia at 4:30.
