Maybe, because I remember when they said something about Alice trying to take money out of Savings which they thought definitely showed something was up... since Alice knew there was no money in that particular account...

Maybe she was using that as a signal? Just a thought.

Either that, or they were trying when she wasn't standing right there...

Sheriff says SC abduction victim may be tied to tree

Associated Press

SHALLOTTE, N.C.(AP) - Authorities say a woman abducted in South Carolina by two Kentucky jail escapees might be tied to a tree in the Brunswick County woods.

The search for Alice Donovan, 44, who was abducted from a Wal-Mart parking lot on Nov. 14 continued Thursday. Searchers used helicopters and foot teams to comb thick, swampy land south of Wilmington.

Authorities believe Donovan could still be alive and tied to a tree, the Morning Star of Wilmington reported Thursday.

"She may be in the area somewhere restrained. Anything is possible at this time," Sheriff Hewett said Wednesday afternoon.

Hewett said authorities' suspicions that Donovan could be alive and possibly tied to a tree stem from the suspects' other apparent abduction in Kentucky two days after their jail break. James Hawkins, of Hanson, Ky., was kidnapped Nov. 5 by two men with a knife and left tied to a tree outside Evansville, Ind., until he freed himself.

Donovan last was seen at a gas station just off U.S. 17, where she stopped with the two suspects in her blue BMW about 4 p.m. Nov. 14. That was about 1 1/2 hours after Donovan was abducted from the Wal-Mart in Conway, S.C.

The two escapees have been captured. Chadrick E. Fulks, 25, was arrested Wednesday. Branden Basham was captured Sunday.

Hewett said Fulks put gas in the BMW, paid at the pump and then went into the store to buy something. The sheriff wouldn't say whose credit card was used to buy the gas or what the suspect bought in the store.

"We know without a doubt that the car, the BMW, then left this parking lot back out to U.S. 17 and traveled north. We can put the vehicle at least another 14 or 15 miles north of our location now," the sheriff said.

"We also know between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. that the two escapees and the BMW were back in South Carolina," Hewett said. "Whatever they did here in North Carolina with Ms. Donovan, they did quickly."

Hewett asked the public to call authorities with any information about sighting of the BMW, the escapees or Donovan.

I had so hoped once the kidnappers were caught, they'd have a shred of humanity and tell law enforcement and Alice's family where she is. Apparently, I'm wrong about the kidnappers having a shred of humanity.

CAR OF MISSING HORRY COUNTY WOMAN FOUND

The car, a blue 1994 BMW, was located in Indiana and is now in FBI custody. Meanwhile, the search continues today for Alice Donovan, 44, who was abducted from a Wal-Mart parking lot in Conway last Thursday. Police began their search just about three miles from the Conway Wal Mart. FBI agents tell Team 15 they received information that Donovan could be in a wooded area behind Waccamaw Drive near the Savannah Bluff Landing. Around 6:00pm on Wednesday, police and FBI agents began searching by both air and ground. That search was called off about 11:00pm Wednesday night. The search for Donovan has also crossed state lines. Police in Brunswick County, NC are searching near Shallotte today. That search began at 8:00am.

Kidnapped Woman's Family Waiting For Word
Mother, Aunt Describe Donovan As A 'Survivor'

POSTED: 10:22 a.m. EST November 21, 2002
UPDATED: 11:55 a.m. EST November 21, 2002

BERLIN, N.H. -- "What can you say?" asks Lorraine Moore. "I want her home. I want her back in her husband's arms again, and in her children's arms again too."

Moore's daughter, Alice Donovan, has been missing since her kidnapping last week.

WMUR's Jean Mackin reported that Lorraine Moore last heard from her daughter two hours after Donovan was kidnapped.

The 44-year-old wife, mother of two, and grandmother of three, was abducted from a South Carolina Wal-Mart parking lot last Thursday.

The kidnapping was captured on surveillance tape that has not been released.

Two hours later, Donovan left an odd message for her family back in Bristol, N.H., saying she'd be shopping later than expected but she loved them very much. Donovan has not been seen or heard from since.

"I just want her safe," Moore said, "That's all. I just want her safe. She doesn't like the cold. That's why she went down south, because she doesn't' like the cold and I don't want her to be out there in the cold."

Donovan grew up in Kingston and moved to South Carolina with her family years ago.

She was Christmas shopping the day that two escapees from a Kentucky jail allegedly abducted her and stole her car.

Brandon Basham, 21, was captured Sunday night in Kentucky. On Monday night, the second suspect, Chadrick Fulks was captured on police videotape, evading police in Donovan's stolen BMW.

But Wednesday, police did catch up with Fulks and both escapees were back behind bars. There's still no sign of Donovan, but no evidence her abductors harmed her either.

The family said it is encouraging news that another man kidnapped by the escapees earlier was tied to a tree alive and abandoned.

Still, Donovan's sister Gloria Lindsey, and her mother, keep vigil by the phone and the TV, believing Donovan will also survive.

"It's just within her personality to be able to adapt to her circumstances and survive. She's a survivor, she truly is," Lindsey said.

"There's a lot of people out there praying for her so that's what's keeping me going," Moore said.

I thought she called her DAUGHTER not her mother... and I ASSUMED that her daughter was in SC... why would you call your mother in NH and tell her you'd be "shopping late"??

Can these people not get their facts straight?? Or can I not? I'm crabby today. :(

I had hoped for the same, but I told my family that I feared that when the police were trying to get them to tell them where she was, they would each have an attorney standing over their shoulders advising them not to say anything.
