I've got a good way to overcome oppression:

Get up early, go to work, don't steal, lie, kill, etc. Respect your elders. Strive to be the smartest in your class, not the toughest on the street. Set a good example for your kids.

That was Booker T Washington's prescription, which has been pretty close to universally rejected by the African American population. They decided to take the other fork in the road, the one advocated by communist WEB DuBois - blame all their problems from now to kingdom come on whitey, and demand a political entitlement as the solution for every problem. This in turn is leading to what has been called "politics continued by other means".
