I think he wanted some justice and was stupid enough to believe Burton is honest.

They can't exactly Arkanacide Reser at the moment, but I guarantee you that he will die well before his time--most likely after they commit him to some institution or send him to prison on some trumped up charge.

The only other explanation is that he is a plant designed to discredit the entire investigation--in which case he'll still die an early death.
