What a terrible problem for your friend. She probably needs one of those portable oxygen tanks that so many former smokers need when their emphysema gets bad. My dad could have used one because emphysema contributed greatly to his suffering & death. He was too macho to admit to needing it.

#553........ She and her husband quit smoking 25 years ago, seems they are both allergic to everything under the sun.... now.
Many people who has never smoked, have the same problem when flying......cut in fresh air intake is much too severe, but it saves money.
