They aren't on the Navajo reservation. It's the Tohono O'ohdam Reservation, near the Mexican border. I am confused, though, because they mention Navajo members, possibly working with the O'ohdam's?

I realize that, having grown up in the area. My response was to the question of where Mr. Hillerman might be. I agree with 3AngelaD's notion that this story has "great book" potential written all over it.
