The left panders to minorities and gays because of the VOTES they represent, not because of any core value. As the author states, Israel is a functioning CAPITALIST society, therefore, they must be opposed.

Nearly all the causes the left speaks for are noble-sounding covers for its real agenda -- the overthrowing of Western, especially Judeo-Christian and capitalist, values. Remember the chant at Stanford, "Hey, hey, ho ho, Western civ has got to go"? That is what animates the left.

Well done. I've been asking this very same question to the rank and file lefties so often this past year, I feel like a broken record. Hopefully, some of them will wake up. They are being used by heartless monsters, who like Stalin/Mao/etc before them, are perfectly willing to see millions of more deaths, in the screwy hope that the world socialist dream will arise from the ashes. Sadly, I think many of them are so far gone mentally, they can not wake up...

Thomas Sowell tackled Prager's question in a wider, but necessarily political framework in his landmark book The Vision Of The Anointed, and came up with the following:

...increasingly, government has come to be seen as a way of benefitting particluar groups adopted as mascots, often without much regard for what that does to other groups or to the integrity of the system as a whole. Groups disliked, distrusted, or feared by the general public are particularly eligible to become mascots who symbolize the superior wisdom and virtue of the anointed. [Emphasis mine]

This is in perfect harmony with Sowell's diagnosis of the Left as a community that sees itself as elevated above the common herd, both morally and intellectually. Such a difference must perforce manifest itself as a difference in causes championed, and therefore in groups singled out for special defense. That need for a difference drives the Left to adopt as their pets the very persons and groups ordinary people find most loathsome: criminals, bums, disease carriers, terrorists, and the purveyors of nihilist doctrines.

It undermines their every position and demonstrates how baseless their philosophy is.

Things are changing. I reside in a town heavily populated by Jews. Traditionally, our town votes Democrat. November 2002 Election saw a distinctive new trend; 70% voted Republican. I think Jews are finally 'getting it'.
