Because David Duke as governor of Louisiana would have been 4 years of absolutely nothing being accomplished. I was living in the state at the time, and voted for the crook Edwards as well. I would have voted for the damn dog catcher in place of Duke. He was an ineffective legislator because nobody wanted to be associated with anything he had to offer, no matter how much sense it may have made. The same would have held true for him being governor. Louisiana is already a laughing stock, at least the people were smart enough to keep that final insult from happening.

Thank the Lord I wasn't living in Louisiana then, so I didn't have to make the choice, but if I had been, I would have voted for Edwards, myself.
