Yes they did stop, in the 60s.  Up until then the Democrat concept of "doing for" blacks was lynching and segregation.

The Republicans were not the party that controlled the south when it was fashionable to murder someone for the color of their skin...the Democrats did.

Very true. In the Baltimore Sun Diane Donovan wrote about the new MD Lt. Gov. Michael Steele that the only thing he brough to the table was the color of his skin. A Johns Hopkins graduate no less.

But, the black vote for the R's is estimated at 11-26%, I don't know the real #'s and every time I hear the % moves like quicksand.
