Oh, how sad I feel for you having witnessed that crash. And how wonderful a person you are to post this experience so as to gather us in prayer for this gentleman and his kin.
My prayers for him, his family, and for you...

if you know the name of the pilot, can you freepmail it to me? i know a number of corsair jocks -- coolest airplane ever built -- and there is a good chance my sister is the one who did some or all of the restoration.

As one airman for another, in my mind, the missing man formation is being flown.

God bless and comfort his family....

Salute to the veteran airman, and prayers to the family. Thank you for relaying this story for us. Sorry you had to go through that.

A fellow businessman flew the Corsair in WW11. He died about 3 years ago and his widow is a good friend of my wife (church). She is going to ask her if he flew off carriers or from the islands of the Pacific. A friend of my son is going to get his memorabilla and he deserves it as he has lived next door since childhood and these folks have no children.

BTW Robe, I have a diecast model of the Corsair that I received shortly after the War. It has fold up wheels but the wings are stationary and is in excellent condition.

I believe this same aircraft had been at the Tico air shows in Titusville Florida.  I'm sure I have pictures of this plane that I had taken there.

Losing another fine pilot and a piece of our air history saddens me.
