HELP with Bad Cookies.
I have the Lavasoft Ad-aware software. I tells me that I have these two cookies (named below) that allow people to find out things about my computer and me.
I have set my E:\temps folder as where I put my internet explorer temporary files. I tried editing these files and removing everthing and writing in the word JUNK and then making them read-only files. Well, the cookies came back with a [2] instead of the [1].
I get doubleclick from the SF Rain Radar and fastclick from the DRUDGE Report. At least I have found out where they are coming from.
I can remove them with Ad-aware, but does anyone know how I can prevent them from being written to my computer without having to reject all of the benign cookies, if benign cookies exist?
E:\temps\Cookies\al harral@doubleclick[1].txt ..........Comes from the SF Rain RADAR site
E:\temps\Cookies\al harral@fastclick[1].txt .........Comes from the DRUDGE Report
I helped a friend clean out his computer after Lop.com "bombed" him (by virtue of him clicking on the wrong link) with a package that made Lop.Com the primary everything as far as the internet software on his machine.
Not only were registry entries very hard to find, I found that 'lop' itself as a word made any seach for 'lop' entries next to useless.
(The 'Lop.com' uninstall was next to useless. No surprise there.)
In Internet Explorer 5 here is what I did. Click on the following:
Tools
Internet Options
Security Tab
Click on Restricted sites
Click on Sites
Then Add this Web site to the zone: Type in the doubleclick.net
Then click on Add.
Continue till you have the sites listed that you want to block.
Adding:
doubleclick.com
fastclick.net
fastclick.com
This works great! Thank you airedale. Since your screen name is airedale, even Bart, my Black Lab thanks you.

This is only a few weeks of effort to block them as they occur...
