National Weather Service | 11/10/02 | Lucas

Posted on 11/10/2002 2:01:45 PM PST by Lucas1

Apparently a number of towns have been hit hard by tornadoes this afternoon. Maybe people can post information from their local areas? One report had FOUR TORNADOES moving into Van Wert, Ohio.

AT 329 PM EST...LAW ENFORCEMENT AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT REPORTED FOUR SEPARATE TORNADOES JUST WEST AND SOUTHWEST OF THE CITY OF VAN WERT...MOVING NORTHEAST AT 40 MPH. VAN WERT RESIDENTS SHOULD REMAIN IN THEIR BASEMENTS OR INTERIOR CLOSETS...AWAY FROM WINDOWS. PEOPLE NORTHEAST OF THE CITY OF VAN WERT SHOULD TAKE SHELTER NOW AS WELL!

Later reports from Emergency Management indicate that the town was hit by the tornado and there is severe damage. Injuries and fatalities are being reported.

I won't post the radar image because it is slow loading, but here is the link to the NWS radar in western Ohio:

Radar is showing a band that runs from the southeast to the northwest. We're now getting severe warnings, several tornadoes reported. Gusts 44 reported NW of here (Dayton); something ugly coming here. Expecting 1-1.5" rain.

And also pray for the folks in Hartford City, Indiana. A Marsh grocery store was hit this afternoon. I do not know the extent. But, I drove by the scene minutes after, and there was evident damage. We shop there often, as I intended to do this afternoon.

Went tornado chasing this afternoon in Nashville. Saw it pass north of Smyrna. Didn't see a funnel, but some nasty looking clouds. Rained so hard driving south on I24 that I got really worried at one point, but got south of the bad stuff before it cross the highway.
