This woman is daughter of old Tom D'Alesandro, one of the most corrupt mayors in Baltimore history. Bribery was a way of life in Baltimore. I hope the republicans tie that tin can on her.

Thanks for that info. A little web searching turned up some information about her family (naturally in a puff piece as part of an awards ceremony) ;-)

Citation for the Honorable Nancy D'Alessandro Pelosi '62 Nancy Pelosi holds the position of Democratic Whip in the U.S. House of Representatives.  In that capacity, she is the highest-ranking woman in the history of the Congress.  Her role gives her a position of national prominence as a voice for her party and a leader on the economy, human rights, education and funding for medical research.             Although she now hails from California, where she represents that state's 8th Congressional District, covering most of San Francisco, she has local roots here as well as family background of distinguished public service in the greater Washington-Baltimore area.  She graduated from Trinity College in Washington, her father, Thomas D'Alesandro, Jr., served as a member of Congress for five terms and as Mayor of Baltimore for twelve years, and her brother, Thomas, was also Mayor of that city.  Before her own election to Congress in 1987, Nancy Pelosi and her husband, Paul, raised fie children and they now have five grandchildren.  Since her October 2001 victory in highly competitive election for the Whip position, the second-ranking leadership position among House Democrats, her performance has gained the respect and administration of her party colleagues.  A Republican member of the House describes her as "110 percent female and 110 percent tough pol," while a fellow Democrat uses the words "gracious but organized" to characterize her leadership style.  She also displays a welcome sense of humor.  She campaigned for the leadership post in a series of weekly meetings and well attended, in part due to the catered food.  As she observed "I'm Italian.  We eat first."             Representative Pelosi is a firm believer in grass roots politics, and she was a staunch and effective leader in the House's passage of campaign finance reform in an effort to enhance the confidence of the American people in the political process.  In addition to her leadership role, Nancy Pelosi serves as the top Democratic member of the House Select Committee on Intelligence, as a member of the House Appropriations Committee, and chairs the congressional working group on China.  Among her other important achievements, she has played a major role in doubling the budget or the National Institutes of Health during the past five years and in gaining increased funding for AIDS and breast cancer research.             In addition to her accomplishments in public service, Nancy Pelosi and her family are active and loyal members of the Georgetown family.  Three of her children (Christine, BSFS '88; Jacqueline, BA Government '89; and Paul Jr., BA History '91 and MBA/JD '95) are GU alumni, as are her husband Paul's brother and nephew, and Paul himself is a 1962 graduate of SFS and serves on the Board of Visitors.             Georgetown University is proud to honor a national leader and role model by conferring on Nancy Pelosi the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa.
