When my wife started 4-5 years of doing 1099 work, about 10 years ago, I came to the same conclusion. There's nothing that will make you anti-tax like having to write a quarterly tax payment check. I've been strongly anti-witholding ever since.

I think a lot more people are becoming 1099ers. They're working for the companies they used to work for, but as consultants. And they have to pay all their own taxes. I just started earlier this year...
