Election Losers, Whiners, and Winners

As a California resident, I am pretty very disappointed by the results of the 2002 election. How can our State be so out of touch with the rest of the nation? In the other forty-nine States, Bush's popularity carried the Republicans to a majority in Congress and a restored many State Governerships. What happened in California?

I hope California's Republican leaders are doing some soul-searching. We deserved better than Davis.

It's really two areas (SF Bay and LA)in our state that are out of touch. It's time to break California into three states.

Second that for Illinois. Corrupt machine Dems took all the statewide offices, a complete disaster. My poor mom, who still lives there, couldn't enjoy the big picture because of the local results. Soul searching time, and time for the conservatives to take control of the Illinois Republican party and lead it back.

If CA Republicans hadn't stayed home from the polls, "Gay" Davis would not have been re-elected. I'll tell you, CA GOP voters are INFURIATING! They deserve just what they are going to get - four more long years of that corrupt, inept, lying piece of crap governor.

Unfortunately, I'm a resident of the People's Republic of Kalifornia. I've said this in a couple of other threads but here it is again.

When the 2003 elections come around every GOP candidate will be able to say, "You want the Democrats? Look at what has happened to California in the past two years and then tell me you still want the Democrats."

I believe that California's purpose is to show the rest of the nation what happens when the liberals are in control.

Right now it's like going to the dentist. I'm wondering how much it's gonna hurt.

What happened in California?

Vote fraud. We are also victims of the two large urban areas, LA and SF, which are leaning so far to the left that the noon sun looks like daybreak to them. The surprise is that prop. 52, which would have allowed election fraud to take place openly, rather than being somewhat hidden as it is now, was defeated.

Yeah, but how many hours can Robert Byrd stand up there and say "pretty, pretty, pretty ..." over and over again? I don't think he has the stamina, and even if he did, I believe even his Democratic colleagues could only take so much of that.

I must agree that the citizens of California are indeed the main losers in this election. And yes, it is pretty tough to enjoy the national victory when your local races went so badly.

Why is Los Angeles so dominated by Democrats? It can't be said that they've done a good job running the city; the city is one of the most inefficient and poorly run ones in the nation. Visit Orange County, Ventura County or San Diego and the contrast in quality of services is nothing short of humiliating.

I would think we'd want to run the rascals out instead of keeping 'em in.

I should probably throw in my two cents about Riordan. I think he's a decent man, and he would have been a significantly better governor than Davis. But that doesn't mean much since I think trained monkeys could have done better than Davis.

I don't think Riordan has the requisite toughness with money that he would have needed to tackle the budget crisis well. I was impressed by how well Simon pinched pennies in his campaign, and I think he could have brought the same mood to the state. For instance, his campaign bus was used, but superbly maintained. He had the engine converted to run on natural gas as a publicity stunt, but he got a good deal on the conversion by adding the conversion company's sign to the side of the bus.

That kind of "make more with less" thinking is what our government really needs right now, and it's a great pity Bill Simon won't be there to help.

This is the exact opposite to the national case, for which we all ought to be saying: the RATS will get none of the CREDIT when the country gets back on track (and we know it will).

Looks like the start of a new era is just delayed a few years for the People's Republic of Kalifornia.

You are so right. In other key states, the Republicans won because they were motivated to turn out in droves while many Dems stayed home. In Californistan, too many Republicans let the press and the spin doctors misinform them about Simon and stayed home like the Dems.

Even here in FreeRepublic people were defeatest about Simon. It's a real shame. He came close, and with a little more energy on the part of California Republicans he would have won.

Sure, Bush should have visited the state again. And the party leaders betrayed Simon. But the voters still could have won it if they'd just gone to the polls and voted.

Just remember, the Democrats can still filibuster in the Senate, and a two-thirds vote of the Senate (which the Republicans don't have) is necessary to stop a filibuster.

The dems don't get it yet. Let them filibuster W.'s agenda or his judges, or Homeland Security and watch what happens in '04.

Serg - In the town I currently live in (since 1987), it used to be controlled 100% by the RATs. About 35 years ago, a few candidates got together (5 member town council, 3 up for re-election). The Pubbies campaign slogan was simply: "Had enough?" To make a long story short, all three won seats, and controlled the council. Things got better and two years later the other two RATs were booted out, making it a clean sweep. Well, there's never been another RAT elected since then. In fact, shortly thereafter, the county boys got their act together, and the entire county went Pubbie and has remained that way ever since.

Think it can't happen in Kalifornia? I live in the People's Republik of JERSEY!!!

Get the Pubbies in Ca to adopt the same approach and the same Slogan - "Had Enough?" Then quote the issues. Had enough of the energy crisis? Had enough corruption? Had enough water shortages? Had enough abc?(i don't know all the hot buttons out there, but you get the picture)

Yep...all the CA people I know do a lot of complaining...and never vote!

I grew up (first stage) in California from 1959-1970 (0-11 years) and I have nothing but fond memories.

In his one term, Gray Davis took a two-billion-dollar surplus and turned it into a 50-billion-dollar deficit. That will grow to over a 100-billion-dollar deficit by the end of his next term. Why would anyone in his or her right (or left) mind vote for this guy?
