Well if Alabama law says that a close election is not a reason to have a recount (rather curious, because you'd think that a close election is the only reason you would want a recount in the first place), then I guess that is the way it is and I'm glad the good guy won. But that means if next time the bad guy wins by 43 votes or something in Alabama, we here won't have the right to bitch about it.

Personally, I'd like to see Riley win on a recount so that the 'Rats can't make hay of this on a national level.

You are 100% correct. But, I think we can all rest assured that the Alabama Legislature will be drafting some new election laws this spring, and we will probably end up with an automatic recount law.

Personally, I think that is long overdue. As the article said, some of the laws being cited have been in exsistence since the early 1800's.

I accuse you, sir, of being logical.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Alabama changing this law in the near future.

Wrong again (haven't you had your orange juice this morning?)

Truly the ONLY reason for a recount is if there is credible reason to believe that a mistake was made, whether intentional or accidental.

In some states, it's true, the laws call for recounts automatically if there vote margin is very thin. But that's not the case in Alabama. In Alabama, it is assumed that if there is no fraud or reason to believe there was a mistake, a vote margin of one vote is not a reason for a recount.

If the legislature wants to revisit that in the future, that's fine.

But this garbage, like what happened in Florida in 2000 and in New Jersey a month ago, where you change a law by judicial fiat, for no reason other than that you don't like it and you've got sharp lawyers, has got to end.

The Clinton era of spitting on the law has got to come to an end. I'd rather it end NOW than later.

They "made hay" of the 2000 election in Florida for the last two years. What did that get them?

I refer you to the results of the election last Tuesday for your answer.
