I find the fact that his race was brought into this very objectionable, along with some of the comments made about blacks in general.

He, Moose, brought race into this. That reverse racial profiling cost 1, 2, 3, or more good citizens their lives. Did you notice that the authorities finally released the pertinant information that caught the killers only *after* another black man was killled? They had the info when non-blacks were killed, but they waited. Why? It stinks of racist -- reverse racist -- politics.
You haven't worked closely with the government lately -- in the past ten years I'd guess. If you had you'd know that in many governmental activities considerations of PC-ism and "diversity" come first, even before such activites as critical as hunting killers.
