Those billions will be going to local schools. The "standards" will be developed by educators...the very same ones who have given us the hate America first campaign. I could be wrong, but I have NOT heard that there will be any sort of ciricculum review to go along with the federal dollars. Item: In Tx, they want to rewrite the history to say that Tx was stolen by the americans and that the Alamo was a great Mexican victory. True to an extent but what of the bravery of the Texans? Item: In NC, in 4th grade social studies books, almost 1/3 the book was given over to the history of the Cherokee and their royal screwing and the importance of the underground railroad. Notable? Of course. But 1/3 of the history of the state? Me no think so.
Its all well and good to be for better education. But after the untold billions spent[state, local and now federal], in addition to having kids dumber than posts, they also have a distinctly warped sense of this nation and the principals it holds dear.

My hope is this; that "W" makes good on his promise of ceding control back to the local level. And that locals will once again take an active role in their local schools. That's a big if, but IMO one of the primary reasons for lack of participation on the local level was due to federalizing and NEAing the curriculum. One size fits all has not and will not work, because it tends towards the lowest common denominator. That's OK for RATS, but of course it only serves the interests of RATS.

Gotta run for now; will check in later...
