I'm a 19 year old girl in my second year of college. And to an extent, I agree and disagree with this article. First of all, I don't see why women can't initiate a relationship. Most guys these days won't do it themselves. But I don't see why if a woman DOES initiate a date or something of that nature, then she automatically wants sex. Why can't she just want a nice night out with a guy whose company she enjoys? As for myself, I will admit that I am an assertive woman. But I am proud to say that I practice abstinence. I like being my own person, and deciding what I do and do not want to do. That means I will not be pressured into doing something I don't want to do, which includes having sex with someone just because I think that's the way to keep him. If that's the only way I could keep him, then I don't want him. I don't know how many girls are out there like me. I know at least one of my friends is. I fear, however, that we are few and far between.

I sort of agree with that. Alot of people, girls especially, are looking for personal involvement. But since so many people are just offering sex, we are not getting what we're looking for. I know I wish I could find a man who wanted personal involvement, not sex. I feel bad for those of us who want the personal involvement, but who are getting a bad name by those people who just want sex.

What we have now is an entire generation of permanently adolescent males and young women with shredded soles. An entire generation of walking abortions. The products of NOW's partially completed mission, they could win if they could get there victims to vote.

I should have phrased that differently. What I meant was that guys don't initiate relationships. They will, however, initiate sex. They have absolutely no problem asking for that. If a woman wants a relationship, most of the time, she has to put the effort in herself to get one. In my case, I would have to find one who doesn't want sex with the relationship.

What is happening is reality, the year is 2002, societies rarely go backwards. The ones that do go backward, or never go forward, end up like the middle-east. Name a democratic westernized country that does not have these problems.

Most guys my age and younger (32) learned quickly that approaching a single women would almost always be met with rudeness. However, ignoring them seemed to turn them on. I think that many young women really don't like themselves, and do not respect anyone who might like them. Notice, abusive jerks always have girlfriends. Tom Lykus makes a living teaching men to take advatage of these types.

My fiance wasn't like that, so I'm keeping her.

FWIW, I have a 17-year-old, and she is not allowed to phone guys, unless it has to do with scheduling that cannot be handled any other way, and only then with my intervening dispensation. She used to grouse some about it b/c her friends were allowed to do so--and she goes to a Christian school. Now, though, she doesn't complain and I think she's beginning to see the freedom that comes from not being the aggressor.

My husband has noticed that as well. He keeps saying that the nice, quiet type like him have no chance in today's world. Then I remind him that that he had one wonderful marriage (23 years) and after his beloved wife died, he was married again in less than three years. Maybe he didn't have women falling all over him during his lifetime, but when he was on the market, serious women who wanted a loving husband didn't allow him to stay there long! He's one in a million and the type of women who are serious about wanting a loving husband and do not want to play games smell this type of man out in a crowd. Nature takes care of the rest.:)

Let me put it to you in language we can all understand. The reputation of American young women is lower than quail crap. That reputation has been righfully earned. Men want little depth of involvement or anything requiring trust or intimacy because it's the nature and background of women has made it too God damned painful to become involved with them. They have turned their backs upon women except for sex and now women complain about it.

First of all, maybe if people didn't treat American young women as quail crap, then they wouldn't have that reputation. Second of all, how do you know that reputation has been rightfully earned? Have you polled all the women in the US? Like I said before, it's those women who do things like have promiscuous sex that give the rest of us bad names. And let's not forget the image put out there by the media. You never hear about the women who want the relationship, and don't sleep around. Also, you said AMERICAN women. Well, European women are a heck of a lot more promiscuous than American women.

And as far as I've seen, it's the women who get hurt when they become involved with men, not the other way around. And I am not attacking men in any way, I'm just defending the women who don't deserve to be in the category you've so carelessly placed them in.
