I still remember like it was yesterday when the late Spy magazine did a cover story on how the Gulf War, with all those cool-looking smart bombs with their video cameras, was slowly becoming a bloody quagmire. That issue hit the streets days after the Iraqis bailed out of Kuwait shortly after the ground war began. I think Joke Conason was working at the rag at the time.
I once made a list of all the popular music songs of the Reagan era I could remember that suggested nuclear holocaust was imminent (Nena's "99 Luftballons," Escape Club's "Wild Wild West," Queen's "Hammer To Fall," The Police's "Walking In Your Footsteps," Europe's "The Final Countdown," Don Henley's "End Of The Innocence," etc.) Some of the songs were pretty good, but they were all wrong.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- there are people who will never forgive Reagan for not blowing up the world like they said he would.
