"Centuries of court tested common law have made it abundantly clear that unreasonable, gratuitous noise treads on property rights, privacy rights and the social contract. In this wise, such noise is not only illegal but anti-American and poses a threat to the fabric of American society. It is no coincidence that "peace and quiet" are inextricably linked."

Noise is measured on the db scale. Most folks don't install, or abuse their machines to emit harmful db levels. What these ninnies are complaining about are sounds, that regarless of level, bother them. It's the melody, tones and tempo, ect they object to.

Your property rights have a boundary. That boundary doesn't extend out to limit the activities of others, because of your esthetic sensibilities. If you want to live in a world where all visual, audible and olfactory stimuli conform to your specification, then sound proof your basement, paint the walls with whatever you want to see and live down there.

There is nothing that threatens Freedom more than esthetic and behavioral commitees that determine what is and is not acceptable.

The most aggrevating noises, IMO, are the rock and rap booming car stereos and the low frequency noises (from industries, traffic and power lines) which pulsate over the countryside.

The Richmond, Va.-based group insists that noise pollution is a serious health hazard.

All those in Virgina better get out while they can. Just do it quietly.

Well that's interesting. Because I have had my car tested twice in this state. And both times it passed emissions and noise levels. Sorry to disappoint you

I just installed a late model 350 and 700 trans in my 65 pickup with 2 Flowmaster mufflers although I did replace the computer controled TBI with earlier carburation and point ignition.

It isn't whisper quiet but it sure doesn't make that much noise.

No person shall drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless such motor vehicle is equipped with a muffler

Well, it's got two good mufflers. Or is dual exhaust too loud for you as well?

It shall be unlawful to use a "muffler cut-out" on any motor vehicle upon a highway.

And it's not a muffler cut out either. So interestingly enough, it does pass regulation in this state. Do you live in this state? Have you spoken to NC state troopers. BTW, I know a couple that have Flowmasters on their cars.

BTW, welcome to FR. Gee, so many new members signed up this weekend. And the only posts they've made are on this thread!!. Interesting huh carpio? What, couldn't find more than the 51 members of the anti-noise group?

With the 2 cross boxes, 2 side boxes and the tools that pack them I weigh a little over 5000# empty, just trying to eek out a little more performance and gas milage with todays high prices.

I opt to stay with my 65 since after 66 all the companies raised the height of the beds about 6 inches and quit making pickups fit for work.

The California Vehicle Code does not prohibit exhaust modifications, modified tailpipes or muffler tips which increase exhaust noise levels over that of factory-installed systems as long as noise levels do not exceed the 95-decibel limit.

Well well, imagine that Texas. The state of California, land of the emissions and clean air has a 95 decibel level. So that covers two states. I'm sure you can find something to back up your argument

California Car Regulations

Wow, but then again that's back when cars were made of something instead of aluminum. I'm right around 12-14 MPG on gas mileage myself. That's better than it was. When I first finished the engine I was down to around 9 MPG. Not good for a daily. Looking to pick up a mid 60s Mustang for daily use

I'm getting a little over 14 mpg which isn't too shabby for the weight. Going from the 3 speed standard trans to the 4 speed automatic with overdrive helped a lot.

Motorcycles with factory exhausts that are used in a responsible manner are not the big noise makers. Sadly there are those who repace the stock equipment with "performance exhausts" and roar around town that bring a bad name to responsible motorcyclists. The "loud pipes" gang are really ruining a wonderful way of life for law abiding motorcyclists.

I am not sure which is worse. The loud exhausts or the "Boom Car Boyz." I think it may depend on where one lives. Several years ago the boom car craze forced it self on my community and they began to multiply. One would only hear loud exhausts a couple times a day. About 3 years a go more and more loud exhausts began to emerge on our community soundscape. They have multiplied dramatically since then. Now it seems that the Boom Car Boyz and the Loud Exhaust Boyz are trying to out do one another in making noise and disturbing the peace. Loud exhaust and car stereo business are beginning to cross market their products and combination Boom and Vroom cars are now booming and rumbling around town.

I noticed you said you were going to carbs. Wasn't that standard? Were there mods to it before you got it? On your carbs, what size are you using?
