"If that's so, then every other hobby, from knitting to volleyball must be the same."

First of all, knitting is practical and so is volleyball, but that is besides the point.

If you need your car to be so loud as to announce the fact that you are on the road... if it is loud for no other reason than to be loud, then you have issues.

Better performance is all well and good. Disturbing the peace just to let everyone know you've started your engine is quite a different matter.

Excessively large exhaust tip
Oversized and pointless wing

LOL. This popped out for me on one of the tickets. What is the deal with that wing?!? Thanks for the laugh

The "boom cars" and the rice racers are somtimes different cars under the same civic, celica skin. The audio cars are owned by pure morons and should not be given ANY considerations. The Jap racers are really kinda cool in a go-cart, Mini Cooper way.And very fast.Whats a kid to do? All the muscle cars are traded among the baby boomers for 15K.I think some of it is the same "build up Dads old car" ethic. Check out the better ones and roll cages with after market 5 point seat belts are "cool" add ons.Chick magnet SEATBELTS.Its a different world from my first car (69 Nova).

Oh, how we've lowered the standards of "very fast" these days ;)

Like they say, there's no replacement for cubic displacement, and there's only so much you can do with a 1.8L 4-cylinder Honda engine....

Have you checked out lately how much it costs to add HP to a ricer versus a V8? While the bodies on some of the classics might be more expensive, the aftermarket parts on these new cars are outrageous

V8 smallblock driver here, and I'm having some Thrush Turbos installed tomorrow. I don't want to be loud, nor do I want to be quiet. I want power, and opening the exhaust system adds power and increases fuel economy.

Oh, and it sounds cool (without being loud).

I used to really love it when I was still running the old dual-points distributor, solid-core ignition wires and non-resistor plugs; the electrical interference sounded like a sawmill blade ripping through wet timber when I pulled alongside a car with a loud stereo. It was fun looking nonchalant as they dove for the volume control. :-)

LOL. That's great!

LOL. Right now my '78 looks like the "Creature from the Lost Junk Yard". I did mention I'd pulled it from a barn didn't I? Had about ten years worth of chicken sh!t that I need to scrape off. Paint was beyond saving. Plans include installing an interior (right now I'm using a milk crate) and Chroma-flair paint (red/blue color shifting).

It'll be at least five years before the thing is anywhere close to be presentable. At this point, it drives. Barely. Got suspension and brake work to do in a big way. Most of the current parts were ripped from a Caprice and a Buick.

It's been sitting for two years. The engine will probably need to be top-halfed, but I can do that when installing the huffer and the Trick-Flows.

I've got some pictures of it from right after I got the motor back into it and the front clip mostly re-installed. I'll see if I can't post 'em up later. She looks worse than UglyBikers Road Runner up above.

Very fast is still the same very fast it always was.And there IS a way to make under powered cars go fast. Make 'em light. My old Nova was an easy 1000 lbs heavier than the rice rockets.A lighter car accelerates faster, brakes faster and corners better. They don't have the top end speed of the older rides, but off the line they feel like a motorcycle. I still like the older cars better ( dream car, studebaker Avanti ) but some of the rice burners are respectable street racers.

I happen to like the "muscle car sound" coming from a well tuned V-8. They are no louder than most motorcycles or semi's.

A neighbor building "muscle cars" with these types of exhaust systems in our residentially zoned area has wreaked havoc among everyone else here.

This is no joke and has gravely effected my property values. his noise invades our home at all hours with no rhyme or reason to when he will decide to make the awfull things roar.

My handicapped daughter was hospitalized because of sleep deprivation. If legal action is not successful in stopping him soon I truly intend to kill him. No joke.

Some of us live in the country where you can stretch what the car does.

I think I live down the road from you. Watch out for me I am bent on revenge.

More horsepower and the right rear end will take a ricer anyday. And for under half the price. I have yet to see a ricer hit the 10s consistently and at a reasonable price.

LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES!!!

I thought you loved the danger, you know, of getting your brains dashed under the wheel of a semi; a kind of viking death and all that.

Now I understand. You just want to be noticed.

Buy a muffler, pig.

Turbo's make a monster out of a mouse, no doubt about it but like we both said you won't understand until you drive one. It really is amazing what you can do to a little 4 cyl.

I can't believe the number of people trying to defend these pigs. And they invoke "property" and "freedom" to defend their contempt for the people around them, arguing in effect that they should be able piss over the fence into their neighbors yard because their bladder is full. These are the same people who take dirt bikes and "off road vehicles" onto private property, and reduce peoples' fields to muddy ruts. Their disregard for the hell they raise in pursuit of what they consider pleasure is no different. They claim that your demand that they respect your privacy and your property abridges their freedom!

I've called them pigs, but that is an insult to pigs. They are dimocrats. Pursue this thing and make them heal. They aren't capable of understanding that freedom and responsiblility are inseparable. They have to be shown.

Ya'll are talking about a different situation all together in my opinion. If I have a muffler and it falls in line with the law you have no reason to bitch, however if some @sshole is raising hell at all times of the night causing you & your children physical & mental problems. Then those of us who you might think are @ssholes just because we have borderline loud and fast vehicles would probably side with you & help you confront somebody like this. We may act a little different than you two with our vehicles, but most of the time we probably agree on most things and revving a motor after 8:00 p.m. is definately a no no. In my case I live in the middle of a 150 acre ranch and if I wanted to I wouldn't bother anyone by doing it, but believe it or not most gearheads for the most part are reasonable & polite. The last thing we want is the law called on us.

The last thing we want is the law called on us.

If you are creating a serious enough problem to cause innocent people to call the law then you need to take a good look at what you are doing. If the the outrage that you hear on this thread is a surprise to you stop and reflect.

I paid my hard earned money for my home. A band of "Auto Enthusiasts" ,related to one another by blood, has moved into two nearby homes over the past 10 years. Thier horrible noise goes across my property line, through my walls and into my home. When they are not making noise my family is on edge in fear of the next blast which always comes.

My daughter is an agent orange Spina Bifida child who has been hospitalized for sleep deprivation during this ordeal. My wife has developed high blood pressure and anxiety attacks. I have cancer and cannot get the sleep and rest my doctor recommends.

. We cannot afford to move. We have been to the local Police and Codes enforcement. The wrench heads have been fined and have laughed about it. I am now spending money that we need for health care on an attorney to sue them.

Building or driving loud cars in a residential area is an act of violence. I am delighted to have found the NFA organization. You and all like you who feel that your "right" to make noise trumps my right to enjoy my own home are thugs and barbarians. You should be jailed. Or executed.

If I am unable to bring this situation to to justice through the courts within the calender year 2003 I shall kill the two brothers who are tormenting my family.
