NerdDad voted at 4:30 p.m. CST Precinct 1 Columbus MS. Republican where there was one, against the incumbent where there wasn't, NO to amendment extending judge terms to 6 years. I was voter #724. Mrs. NerdDad voted at 5:30 p.m. and was voter #800. Poll workers said they had been busy all day. Vote numbers are approaching 50% of precinct. Wet weather and few interesting races probably keeping the number down here. We got gerrymandered out of the Pickering/Shows race.

New ballots this time. We had butterfly punch ballot in 2000. Today we had a color in the oval paper ballot which was fed into an OCR reader. If the ballot was invalid for any reason it was rejected by the reader and returned to the voter for correction. Otherwise the voter number was incremented and the ballot stored in the sealed machine. I assume that there are internals to tally votes but only the voter count is displayed. A nice mix of technology that is human verifiable if necessary. Should make vote counting/reporting quicker here. We'll see.

Just for the record......I am firmly convinced that in 2000, not one voter was confused by the butterfly ballot. I am referring of course, to Palm Beach County in Florida, not to your voting experience of the same year. Just wondered if you agree with my opinion!
