Why did Maryland Democrats suddenly hire 1,000 "poll-watchers"?

When it comes to political dishonesty, Maryland has a reputation almost as rich as New Jersey's. Think of Spiro Agnew, or the notorious 1994 governor's race when amazing turnout in Baltimore defeated Republican Ellen Sauerbrey by 6,000 votes.

Florida in 2000 was only a "trial run" for the Democrats.

Curran counts the votes in Maryland, the Democrats have nothing to worry about, no matter how many votes the Republicans get.

There's been little such uproar over Maryland, however, even though Democratic Attorney General Joseph Curran has big doubts. "It may be very narrowly legal, but beyond that I would urge caution," he told the Washington Post. He's "not sure it's in the spirit of what the law is."

Lawyers have to be licensed in the state they are pacticing. A pro hac vice is allowed only for a filled incourt case with the assistance of licensed local counsel and only for ONE case. An out of state lawyer can not give legal advise in a state they do not hold a license.

"Vote early ... vote often" ..... Al Capone or Terry McAuliffe?

I was # 6

about 40 - 50 people lined up for the opening bell at 7:00 am at the Cudjoe Key Sheriff's Station ......... less than the last national by perhaps half

everyone was required to present photo ID ....... no complaints ..... fill in the dots / scanner

all happy smiling faces

the talk in the line was of Jeb handily taking Florida ........ then of the lawsuits .... the damn attorneys ... the disgraceful behavior of palm Beach, Miami and the dems in Minnesota and these were not just GOPers ....... they were from both parties .... just neighbors

saw donna "mistress of the fraud" brazil. she was not just partisan, she was blindly partisan. To be expected of course but, she acts like they have a massivly staffed corp of people to take democrats to the polls. All I have to say is expect law suits in cases where the fraud exceeds the victory margin. Of the 300+ local judges I don't believe ANY south florida judge is a republican.

BUT GET THE VICTORY HIGHER and they have no case!

Just got to work after working the polls for Ehrlich for a couple hours. Turnout was slow in a couple heavily Dem. districts in Columbia.... hoping that's a good sign.

Well, maybe it was just an honest mistake, but....

I was at my Father's house yesterday,(he is a Dem) and there was a message on the answering machine from a Union Prez with Bill Clinton's voice (UGH!) urging him to get out and vote for Karthleen Kennedey Townsend. This is odd becuase HE LIVES IN DC NOT MARYLAND! And he has NEVER lived in Maryland.

It is, um, difficult to see how this could be a mistake. NO ONE who resides in area code 202 should go vote in Maryland!

"poll watchers" are normally people who stay at the polls making sure that everyone who gets there has a chance to vote and isn't unduly influenced.
The people the Dems are hiring are not "poll watchers" in that sense. They are paid to go into the neighborhoods and bring people to the polls. They can provide transportation or child watching (and maybe some other services) so that people can get to the polls.
They are not "allowed" to tell people how to vote.

Excuse me for being a cynic, but they are allowed to have voter registrations, so they do know whether they're soliciting Reps, Dems, or Inds. I don't guess they will be transporting many GOPers to the polls!
