LOL! My husband refuses to take the shot. He used to get the "flu" from the shot alone...So I get the shot to take care of him if he gets sick..go figure..

In the 80s I got the flu two years in a row. Since then I've gotten the shot every year and, thank goodness, have not had a flu. The flu is horrible. First you think you're going to die, then you want to. These days we have more to worry about than a super flu, however.

This happened at work yesterday...some of the people who got shots in the morning wound up leaving for home at noon time because they had "gotten sick". Duh.

I was reading in a medical journal that the biggest myth about getting a flu shot, is that the person getting the shot will or can get the flu from it. The shots do not contain live viruses, and cannot cause the flu or pneumonia. Your husband just could have caught the flu at around the same time he got the shot. Some sort of freak timing or something.

Also, (I am sure as you and others are aware) there is no guarantee the shots will work, but they do save lives, especially for the elderly. Our whole family is getting them this week. I have no spleen and and can catch the flu very easy, so it is very important for me to get it.

Our first experience with flu shots was when my husband was in the Coast Guard '58 to '61. He was given the flu shot & got sick every time. A live virus was used & you had the flu. Consequently I refused to take the shot & luckily stayed well. Then we came home to Texas & lived in a small town where everyone in town got sick every winter with the flu. After a few years someone told me that the flu shots were now made with a killed virus & you don't get sick. I have a flu shot every fall & haven't had the flu in years. It is still possible to catch a strain that you aren't protected against but so far so good.
