There is no job category that can't have its wages smashed downwards through h1b.

Look for wages in the nursing profession to start dropping within the next 5 years. You're hearing the same cries of a shortage of nurses that you heard about a shortage of I.T. professioals during the 90s. Already H1-b nurses are being brought over from the Philipines, that's always the beginning of the end for a decent paying profession in this country.

what we should be doing with the nursing shortage is we should be developing special education programs to get high school kids interested in it. We should be funnelling high school girls and recent high school graduates into jobs that prepare and indoctrinate a person for that profession. Nursing homes are under-staffed as is. We should get young people in there and let them get comfortable with it. We should consider developing or enhancing another category of nurses below RN, so the requirements to get in that field and so some work wouldn't be so large.

Remember when JFK said we're going to the moon before the decade was out. And then we did it in 1969? We have to try, we have to make it a priority, in order to achieve any goal. Our leaders are just letting this nursing shortage sneak up on us. Meanwhile high school kids are being polluted with junk in high schools instead of giving them something truly useful like a line on a nursing career.
