I believe you failed to detect the irony in BSOD's post...

This line for me perfectly captured the essence of the Wellstone Funeral/Nuremberg Rally (which is in itself a bitter irony). When the Personal is the Political, all manner of evil is possible.

When my father died, I (as a not very observant Jew), sat shiva and huddled quietly with my family and friends. The Wellstone crowd instead, chose to re-enact Triumph of the Will.

Thank you for speaking up... and I totally agree with you. Somehow the DUmmycrats don't seem to get it ... or want to get it. They're in denial about the fact they're likely to lose MN too.

The days are gone when public figures were remembered for their humanity, patriotism, and their service to the public. The Democrats are so desperate they've taken to defiling a funeral as well as subverting the law in order to win. Today, winning at all costs is the Democratic Party's new motto and never you mind how despicable, tawdry and low they must go to do it. Its all the more ironic when you realize they didn't need to politicize a memorial service to walk away with the Minnesota Senate seat. With some self-restraint, it would have been a slam dunk. What's a disservice to Paul Wellstone is that while he had genuine and principled beliefs and wasn't afraid of going against the crowd, whether in his party or amongst his opponents, his party turns out to have no principles, no core beliefs, no vision, nothing except a lust for power. The Democrats have lost their souls and quite frankly I hope their sleaziness and contempt for the laws and people of this country, evidence in their uncontrolled hatred of conservatives, will backfire upon them. Whatever one thinks of Wellstone's life and career, he deserved better from his own party than what we saw a fortnight ago.

This gets to the heart of the "how dare you campaign" nonsense of the Democrats, and it provides a clue on how to retort: "Paul Wellstone's passing is tragic and I respect his memory, but I'm talking about Mondale here, and the last time I checked he was very much alive".

In dealing with radicals of all kinds (religious, political, academic) I have seen the same relentless use of hysterical outburts and Stalinistic tactics - and a professed love of humanity used to disguise a profound hatred for most individuals. Of course to disagree with these people is to invite being called a hater, a redneck, a Bircher, a Fundamentalist, a Neanderthal, and a right wing extremist.

It might have been nice if, in among all the partisan rallying, the speakers had managed to spare a thought for those caught up by a quirk of fate in this circus. But Senator Harkin didn't bother mentioning them.

It might have been nice.....but we know the RATS lack the underlying character traits necessary "to be nice." These traits include, but are not limited to, conscience, conviction, integrity, compassion, empathy, humaneness, ethics, honesty, honor, along with a sense of accountability of one's thoughts, words, and deeds.

I believe, more importantly, belief in a Higher Power (for me, Jesus Christ), not self, steers mankind away from our baseness and selfishness and our selfish thoughts and desires because those with strong beliefs in a Higher Power know they will be held accountable, whether that be in this life or the one that follows us after death.
