Suspect it had to do when we did away with rubber tires that wore out rapidly and went to synthetics.
Also probably had to do with fewer swimming holes to need them, and the advent of plastic swimming rings, and more families able to afford swing sets instead of hanging inner tubes for swings..:))
We were tail-end-of-the-Depression children, after all!
In retrospect, Nan, I think we were the privileged generation, not taking things for granted, and appreciating what we EARNED....not the Gimmee Gimmees Generations that followed.
