The Grapes of Wrath, but I didn't know it until much later.

While I agree that politically it's not very conservative... it's still the best book I've ever read.

Not the best book I haver read but it was not propaganda either. "Grapes of Wraith" is a great novel and should be read by American school kids.

If " GRAPES OF WRATH " is the best book you've ever read, you need a booklist. I'd be quite happy to give you one. :-)

The movie is great too, I saw it on TV a couple months ago. We know it's a lot of hokum about what the glorious and good government might accomplish as opposed to the heartless capitalistic system, but you can't help but feel for the poor bastards that suffered through the Dust Bowl and the migration to California.

Best assigned book I ever read (actually it was on a recommended reading list for a college class) was Brave New World by Huxley.
