Gun control ( read BAN for control) zealots are focusing on local ordinances as they struck out at the national and state level. Local boards are easy to sway and stacked with retired guys and gals who go which ever way the wind blows. Fight this with state preemption laws.
Old folks get real soft headed on violence and buy the argument that guns are bad and everyone should just get along. My dad, ex-WWII Marine who got his stuck bayonet out of a Jap's guts by firing his M 1, now is a big anti-war type and says don't send our kids to fight Iraq. Go figure.
Hey, Sonnie,
Don't make the mistake of lumping all us 'old geezers' together under your "soft headed on violence" label!
I, for one, am fast approaching my 65th birthday -- and I spent the day on my tractor building a firing range on my 'back 50'. A range, BTW, with firing lanes long enough and berm backstops big enough to handle .50BMG or full auto, if the mood or need strikes.
Safety First -- no "RicocheT"s on my range...
Next time, take more care to avoid projecting your own hangups (as generalizations) onto the rest of the populace.
