Ok guys, we need a catchy name for the new tax. Let's get those proposals on the table. I'd recommend any of the following:

The fair tax
The equal tax
The universal tax
The treat every one the same tax

Others?

How about "Screw the rich tax"? Even if the new tax system is more fair people here(MN) won't vote for it unless it hurts the wealthy\prosperous\hardworking\business.

The best plan would be the "untax". :o)

Actually this is an interesting article. I hope they do make a strong push for tax reform. From an economic efficiency standpoint, the best tax would be a national sales tax. However, the lack of the progressivity is just going to give an issue to the Dems to beat the crap out of us.

There are several proposals for a "progressive consumption tax" (google those words and you'll come up with a bunch of articles on the subject) that will give us tax system that Dems might sign on for because it mantains the progressivity of the system (i.e. the rich pay more than their fair share) and yet will give us most of the economic benefits of a national sales tax.

Not ideal, but as Pay Moynihan once said big reforms pass the Senate 70-30 or not at all. Unless we can get some liberals support a tax reform plan, why waste the time and just give the class warriors a free campaign ad (exhibit A - Newt Gingrich's efforts to reform Medicare were for naught and cost us seats in the House because he didn't line up Democratic support for his proposals. He would have been better off shelving the plans).

You can sell it to liberals by calling it the woman and minority compassionate assistance tax (WAMCAT). ;-)

After all, a strong economy helps everyone, including women and minorities.

Honest tax
Moral tax
Ethical tax
Freedom tax
Shrinking tax

Abolish the IRS and replace the graduated income tax with a consumption tax such as the NRST -- national retail sales tax where, if you don't want to pay the tax don't buy the item.

Replacing the graduated income tax with a NRST would set off a chain reaction of benefits.

  1. Boom the economy because productivity is not taxed; no tax on profits or hidden taxes/fees.
  2. IRS threats and coercion eliminated and replaced with, if you don't want to pay the tax, don't buy the item.
  3. 20% decrease in retail prices facilitates spending and partally offsets the retail tax.
  4. People will know how much leviathan government is really costing them, resulting in...
  5. Shrinking government to it's constitutional function to protect synonymous private-property rights and individual rights from domestic and foreign criminals while upholding the sanctity of private contracts.
  6. Freedom in United States leads to other countries doing similar or risk its citizens fleeing to United States to increase productivity here while enjoying the fruits/prosperity of their labor.

Replacing the graduated income tax with a NRST is not an end all be all. It's but one of five key factors for collapsing a corrupt government while allowing a fair and honest government to rise in its place.

The President who presides over the abolition of the IRS will be held among the great leaders of our nation. At least among the people. The dirtbags of our society (and the accountants) will hate the idea.

This would be a nice centerpiece for a new Contract with America, along with strong border control and removal of illegals. LANDSLIDE election. Unstoppable. Working class union types would cross over bigtime.
