The Minnesota Supreme Court is scheduled today to hear one of the most contentious election ballot debates in recent memory involving the U.S. Senate race. The justices are:

Chief Justice Kathleen A. Blatz
Appointed in 1996 by Republican Gov. Arne Carlson
Age: 48
Background: District judge from 1994-1996; Republican state representative from Bloomington from 1979-1994

Russell A. Anderson
Appointed in 1998 by Carlson
Age: 60
Background: Judge Advocate General's Corps in the Navy from 1968-1976; district judge in northern Minnesota for 16 years

Paul H. Anderson
Appointed in 1994 by Carlson
Age: 59
Background: Chief judge of the Minnesota Court of Appeals from 1992-1994; former partner in South St. Paul law firm of LeVander, Gillen & Miller

James H. Gilbert

Age: 55

DFL lawyer alleges that automated phone calls have been going out urging voters to hurry and get their absentee ballots voted before the Court rules.

Unfortunately, south New Jersey voters won't have an opportunity to see that debate, since the Philly stations that they get won't be airing the debate.

DFL trying to get ALL previously voted absentee ballots thrown out, to Coleman's disadvantage

And they're asking that the military ballots are tossed out. There's no way that the military personnel are going to get a supplemental ballot out and back in time.

Oh, now they're asking that the official supplemental ballot be put on the Web.

A Justice raises the equal-protection issue; that's at least a bit encouraging. DFL laywer urging Court to use websites, mail, any means possible to enable everyone to vote. Presumably, this includes the dead and the stupid.

The definition of "spoiled ballots" is at issue. At least one Justice seems skeptical about the 'rats position here.

The DFL is looking to double-vote in all the other races.
