RunDMC and the band that sang "white lines" were about the only "rap" entities accepted by white, college kids in the mid to late 80's.

You forgot The Beastie Boys and LL Cool J. Maybe I wasnt as white as I thought back then ;-)

The Beastie Boys definitely made their way into my suburbia but LL never quite got to the level of DMC or the Boys.

I was a fan of the Beastie Boys like most high school/college students around that time, but when they decided they needed to start spouting off on political matters they dropped pretty far down on my list.

Raising Hell, and License to Ill were the first tapes I remember buying on my own. That Beastie Boys track was great stuff. They were one of the first groups to sample music like crazy. All of us white-boys were running around singing "U Be Illin", "It's Tricky", "You gotta fight for your right", "Brass Monkey", and "Paul Revere." heh heh
