It's stunning to see how few real men there are in the sports world for young boys to look up to. They're just a bunch of dogs in heat with tendencies to violence. I know it's not a new problem, but there's no hiding it anymore because they have no shame. And, BTW, it seems to hold even more true for those with made-up names.

This is a surprise?

Hate to say it, but the culture of being a BMOC starts quite early, almost in junior high school.
Everyone in the school knows you are BMOC and wants to curry favor, either through money (lots of it in college and better HS) drugs (another one), clothes, shoes, women, cars, etc. These athletes know that they can have what they want when they want if they are BMOC. The problem arises when someone is sloppy enough to get caught. (like the HS associations and oversight committees choose to do anything about it. They don't.)
They either slip up and let someone catch them receiving $$$ from a booster or friend, or see them in a fancy ride, or get a (bleep) knocked up.
As long as a society we idolize the athlete and give them carte blance, this behavior will continue, and the next group will do so as well.

What I could never understand about this kind of thing is:
Why would the women want to lower themselves to that degree?
How must it feel to know you won't be remembered the next day... or during the 'act' for that matter?

A desperate woman who doesn't think much of herself. But then, the men involved here are completely lacking in self-control. The political equivalent would be Clinton and Monica.

How available is sex to the athletes? How available is oxygen to land-dwelling organisms? Tomorrow's news - rock stars take a lot of illegal drugs...

This article is to protect former Chicago sports icon Michael Jordan. MJ met Jaunita via a one night stand. How suprised was she that MJ didn't change his behavior? How suprised are we supposed to be that MJ has hisself in a similar fix?

This is a surprise? This is a suprise to most of the people in my life. Whenever I mention that celebrity marriages are almost sure to fail, people almost always tell me I'm exagerating and that it only appears that way because the bad ones get publicity.
How many people over the last 15 years thought the Michael Jordon's personal life was a mess.

Why would the women want to lower themselves to that degree? 'Lowering themselves' is about the only thing they are good at and it is their life-time achievement to have 'lowered themselves' on a man that plays with balls ;-)

It's stunning to see how few real men there are in the sports world for young boys to look up to. It's because they are more interested in being celebrities than they are just playing sports.
In Shakepeare's time, the actors (the celebrities of the day) were considered the scum of the earth. Now they are still the scum of the earth, they are just put on a pedestal, that's all.

I agree. They must have very low self esteem thinking all they are worth is tits and ass. And I often wonder don't they watn a bit if stability in their lives? I can't relate to them. They must be sad woman.
In the end, though, the NBA All-Star Game is the Super Bowl of sports sex.
In the eighties I heard a first hand account from a co-worker's cousin about the "antics" at a Lakers party. Magic Johnson was an appropriate name; so when I heard #32's press conference announcing his HIV, I certainly *was not* nonplused.

Professional athletes are mordern day equivalents of gladiators. Women are genetically programmed to go with winners. Women can't help being attracked to men who are good at dominating other men. Look at what happened in WWII in occupied France. French women gladly forsook their defeated husbands and boyfriends to hook up with the seemingly more manly German conquerers. That old phrase--none but the bold deserve the fair--it's still true and always will be as long as women have the genetic impulse to maximize survival opportunities for their offspring.

This is just a/ sincere question. Not sure what you're saying by noting that, or whether it is something you are saying is a formal rule in journalism... or...?
There is also quite a bit of benjamins involved when you are debasing yourself with a high to mid profile athlete. Get knocked up with his kid, and you can get some serious $$$ for the kid. (i.e Corliss Williamson from UA and a few others come to mind. He was in a custody squabble with his baby's momma over $$$ for the kid. It seems that $6000 a month wasn't enough to support the kid for school, clothes and other necessities.)
yea, right.
Sorry fellas. Just another scam on ya when you spread out the seeds.
-Maigrey-
p.S.--- When I was in school, and there were 1 or 2 future pros in the school, there was all the talk about them. You'd see them in a nice ride (a "friend's" ride) and hear the gossip about $$$, drugs, and clothes. There were also the little "one night kids" running around after the fact. One pro I know of has 3 kids by 3 different women. I'm glad he's gotten his life shaped up, but at what cost?

After what Wilt Chamberlain had to say, this comes hardly as much of a shock.
Athletes, politicians, movie stars, celebrities, will always have groupies of some sort: people who either read virtue into someone who is too distant for that impression to be disproved, or those who hope that the glow of fame and popularity somehow will rub off.
Either way, it's kind of sad really.

They all seem to be interested in sex.

"That's the world's biggest party, from Thursday through Sunday," said Pat Williams, general manager of the Orlando Magic. "Every female you can imagine descends.Imagine Janet Reno, Maxine Waters and Madeline Albright, dressed provocatively, cornering Dennis Rodman.
